As the Roving Wino I’m expected to be ambling about town having a great time doing nothing but tasting wine and sampling the town’s best restaurants. Nothing is further from the truth because in actuality I am hand-cuffed to my computer day in and day out. It always thrills me to get a chance to get out and Taste of Temecula’s Meet and Greet is a perfect way for me to kill THREE birds with one stone. I get a chance to meet and network with people, discover new and exciting places to eat and taste wine in the middle of the day.
This week’s ToT Meet and Greet was held at Pizzeria Venti so I jumped at the opportunity to explore this new restaurant. After hearing so much about their unique style of Tuscan cuisine, I had to take advantage of their variety of foods that they have to offer. Frank and Diane Shaffer, the owners of this new eatery, thrive on making sure that their patrons are fully satisfied before they leave. Friendly atmosphere and family oriented, its easy to see why I’ve been hearing a lot about this place lately. You get an abundance of Tuscan food while easy on the wallet which is important in these tough economic times. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm Venti hosts its “Italian Happy Hour”. They offer $1 bottles of domestic beer; $3 glasses of wine; and $5 appetizers. Wednesday is “Family Night”. A family of four can eat for only $20 or “Venti” dollari. You get unlimited salad; one pan pizza with your choice of cheese, pepperoni or sausage; and 4 soft drinks. You can add a bowl of pasta for five bucks more. Sunday is “Grandma’s Sunday Dinner”; you get a bottomless pasta bowl and salad for 4 for only $20.
I tried their Bocce Balls, which are savory Italian meatballs and cheese wrapped in a golden crust dripping with marinara sauce. Also served was Bolini, which is a hand-rolled breadstick stuffed with cheese and pepperoni and served with marinara sauce. I also sampled their pepperoni pizza, which is nothing like the traditional round pizza. Their crust is totally different and everything is so flavorful. You must not forget to have dessert as they have a wide variety of delights to choose from. They have 6 different types of gelato, spumoni and cannoli as well as various other Italian pastries.
As part of the ToT Meet & Greet, some special guests complimented our culinary experience with a few surprises. We all got to enjoy “Betty’s Gourmet Peanut Brittle”. There really isn’t any comparison to store bought brittle you would normally get. This stuff was fabulous and was very tasty Gourmet Brittle. From milk chocolate peanut brittle to hot and spicy brittle, you will enjoy this great tasting old fashioned treat.
To top offthe event, there was a raffle which included tickets to Storm baseball games, a bottle of fine wine and a day at a The Beauty Studio Salon. Pizzeria Venti donated 8 box seats of which I was lucky enough to win 2. I never win anything. There can be 3 prizes and 4 people and generally I am the one left out, but this time I was a winner. There are always awesome things raffled off so it pays to stick around and put your business card in the hat. If you haven’t joined ToT Lunch Meet & Greet come join us at the next one. Every other Wednesday from noon to 2pm you will find us networking at a location that’s tasty and fun. Check outthe next one on July 13th at Shorty’s Bistro in Temecula.
Meanwhile, if you were not able to join us this time and you REALLY want to go to a restaurant where you feel like “familia”, try Pizzeria Venti. Food that is rich in flavor, friendly in atmosphere and won’t leave you cash poor. These specials feeding a family of four for a $20, with this quality of food, is a must do.You will be glad you did. Just tell them TOT sent you. Enjoy!
