This past Saturday, May 7th, The charity 2K4Kids – The Kari and Keira Lyn Parker Foundation held their 3rd Annual Temecula 2K Walk/5K Run/10K Run.
2K4Kids was established in 2007 to assist students graduating from high school and/or current undergraduate students to achieve their educational goals and objectives. They also assist, but are not limited to, day care facilities, pre-school classrooms, and pre-public school education institutions that are accredited and reputable within their communities.
The event’s goal was to raise funds for kids of all ages to assist in their education when it seems as if “the mountains of life are too hard to climb and overcome.” The direction of their plan is to give away scholarships and grants.
The funds raised from this event will help students with financial obligation, defray costs, and assist monetarily of those attending an accredited college or university. Financial assistance may cover expenses such as tuition, registration, books and supplies, or equipment needed for required courses.
Although the event was to raise funds for a great cause, the day was filled with the memory of Kari and Keira Parker, who were the wife and daughter of founder Matt Parker.
It turned out to be a beautiful day with all the activities of face painting, snow cone making, and an up & coming live band called Stream of Consciousness. There were many volunteers to be seen and businesses that stepped up to donate some refreshments such as Jamba Juice and Soup Plantation.
As the participants ended their walk/run the winners of the event were announced and prizes given out. In addition, the students who were given a $500.00 scholarship (to be received every year for 4 years) were honored. The recipients Amanda Knight and Andrea Gutierrez both said “It will really help with (their) books and cost of living while (they) attend college”.
The “2K4Kids” values and commitment are evident in their actions by giving back to the community.
