The “dog days” of summer have finally crept up on us. After a mild summer thus far, the mercury is soaring and 90+ degree days are going to be the norm for the next month here in the Temecula Valley. If you’re proud parents, then your children have just started school within these last two weeks. Could get stressful. Getting kids to and from school each day, preparing lunches, helping with homework, etc… Add the scorching heat, and these next few weeks could become unbearable. So what better way to cool off and de-stress a bit than with a chilled glass of a fantastic tasting Chardonnay?
Hence my stopping by Danza del Sol this week to try their 2009 Chardonnay Reserve.
Winemaker Mike Tingley’s goal is to “craft varietal wine and innovative blends that not only are delicious, but have an identity.” I’d say he succeeded with this lovely varietal. Its nose is quite fruity – more so than most Chards I’ve tried – with hints of butterscotch and vanilla. Taste-wise, I do get a little oak and butter (it was aged in American oak for 6 months), but it’s also very clean, crisp, and relatively sweet. It’s not a typical dry white wine – the residual sugar (0.60%) adds to a nice over-all balance that really makes this Chardonnay one of the finest I’ve tried here in Temecula. Robust, refreshing, and full of flavors; a perfect wine to enjoy after a hot, busy summer day.
Danza del Sol’s tasting room has been open since February of this year, but now they’ve extended their hours – they’re now open for business every day from 11:00am – 6:00pm. When you visit their elegant and spacious tasting room this week, just mention that you read about their 2009 Chardonnay Reserve here on Taste of Temecula, and you’ll receive the Wine Club discount price ($21.56) when you purchase a bottle. The offer is good through Thursday, August 26th.
