They say opening a business is much like bearing a child. So much love, work and worry, but such a joy in the end. The new Masia de Yabar Urban Winery in Old Town Temecula is clearly a labor of love for owners Wilmer Yabar, Waleed Jouzy and Carlos Rivas. Although the main property has been very successful out on Camino Arroyo Seco in Temecula Wine Country, the three felt it was important to bring their special wine and passion for people, food and music to town.
A few fortunate souls – industry and press – were blessed with a preview of the beautiful space. Opened in the first week in August, the Masia de Yabar tasting room features warm tones, hardwood floors and a homey atmosphere. In the days to come, Masia will be featuring a tapas menu to compliment the wine. Chef Francesco Cusimano, from Rustico Ristorante & Pizzeria, wowed the gathering with his famous Mama Anna Pizza: garlic sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, artichoke, asparagus, oregano, and romano. Heavenly. The night was lively with Latin music courtesy of Diego de Jesus Mondragon, and many in the crowd danced as the evening progressed. Live music will be featured every weekend in this warm and wonderful venue.
And we must not forget the wine. Poured by the gorgeous Ginger Giordano, who will be head of food and beverage for the location, and the ever-charming Pete “Pedro” Reilly, the wines delighted from top to bottom. From Viognier to Cabernet, the line-up is sure to please a variety of palates. I enjoyed them all, but the Tempranillo with its rich ruby color and berry, plum and herbal notes was my favorite of the night.
The Masia de Yabar Urban Winery in Old Town Temecula aims to feel like home and be a hip place to enjoy live music, food and wine. I believe that these goals are well achieved by the warm staff, gorgeous space, delicious wine and passionate music playing there.
Masia de Yabar is located at 41944 Fifth Street Ste. 102, between Delaney’s 100 Mile Market and Palumbo’s Ristorante. (951) 506-5953
