I have been a girly-girl for as long as I can remember. I begged to wear dresses, and twirled in them until I was dizzy. I got into my mom’s make-up continually, no matter how many times I got in trouble for it. In middle school I put on eyliner on when I got to school and washed it off before I left for home. I love make-up, skin-care, and perfumes. And now, I love Anela Apothecary.
Anela Apothecary came highly recommended to me by an equally girly Taste of Temecula staff member. My favorite esthetician became a full time actress, and I had a hard time finding a new one. Marilyn Tipps knew of my predicament and called me as soon as she found Anela.
“You won’t believe the products they carry,” she said, “And they have a whole menu of facials.”
Anela Apothecary is a family owned and operated store that focuses almost entirely on the skin. After owner Michael Bommarito’s mother Sandra was diagnosed with cancer, the whole family knew it was time to make a change. Sandra wanted to do something she would enjoy. Together, along with Michael’s sister Christina, and his partner Nino Luglio, they decided the people of Temecula needed a place to purchase and be educated about quality skincare. Michael, Nino, and Christina all have extensive backgrounds in high-end cosmetics and skincare, so there was a wealth of knowledge to pull from when deciding what to carry.
“Good enough wasn’t good enough. We wanted to carry the best,” the youthful looking Michael explained. “The best isn’t always the most expensive. It’s about the quality of the product, and being confident when we recommend it to our customers.”
Many exclusive brands are carried that cannot be found within 50 miles like the moderately priced Malin+Goetz, the very high end brand Ren and celebrity endorsed Mario Bedescu. Anela also carries such prestigious cosmetics lines as Napoleon Perdis and Kevyn Aucoin.
Decorated in a funky mix of 1940’s glamour and island beauty, Anela feels special. Hibiscus Flowers and Plumeria dangle from crystal ropes. A colorful chandelier sets off the soldier straight rows of beads. Sandra designed the store to feel special, like a vacation. It also smells wonderful. Everything about Anela encourages one to go slowly, and take note of what is being offered. I browsed the fragrance bar, and lingered over the Kissable Couture luxury lip-gloss.
I finally made my way to the plumeria themed facial room where Flower Plourde was waiting for me. I was having the Detox Oxygen Facial, because I needed one that would really get my skin clean. All Malin+Goetz products were used, including a wonderful tingly oxygenating facial mask. My pores were steamed, and I received a neck and shoulder massage and a moisturizing hand massage.
Michael hired Flower because he felt her technique went above and beyond what is normally expected. She was originally licensed in her native country of Colombia and was re-licensed when she moved to the States, 10 years ago. The combination of South American and North American methods made for a luxurious experience. The one-hour facial was as relaxing as a full body massage, and my skin was glowing when she finished.
When I was done, I spoke to Michael about my skincare needs, which are many, and my skincare budget, which is tight. He was very knowledgeable about all the lines Anela carries, and was able to accommodate even my modest skincare budget with wonderful and effective products. I will easily be able to afford to supplement my beauty regiment.
Anela is the place for anyone who cares about his or her skin. There is something for every budget, but most importantly, the people at Anela know what they are talking about. Go in and see them, and see if you can leave empty handed.
Anela Apothecary is located at 41377 Margarita Rd. #F104 Temecula, CA 92591,in the Bel Villagio Shopping Center across from the Promenade Mall.
