JDS Actors Studio

Do you or your child have dreams of making it in Hollywood, but you don’t want make the two hour congested drive to LA?  Well, your days of trekking it up the 91 freeway are over thanks to Temecula’s new acting school, JDS Actors Studio.

Scott and Diane Strand celebrated the grand opening of their new studio with a free and fun open house.  It was a real party where everyone enjoyed popcorn, cake and hotdogs, while admiring the roomy space. Then, while the kids were enjoying amazing close-up magic performed by John George (seriously, how does he do those tricks?), their parents signed them up for private tutoring and drama classes.

And if anyone asks why they opened an acting studio in Temecula, Scott has a ready answer.  “There’s such a vibrant, thriving art community in Temecula that we realized we wanted to not only be part of it, but enhance it.”

A year ago, the acting studio wasn’t even a glimmer in Scott and Diane’s minds.   They were busy with JDS Video & Media Productions, their highly successful video production multimedia company.  But then they noticed something about their children’s school.  Even though Ysabel Barnett offered various after school clubs, they were lacking a drama program.  So, drawing on their professional theater and film acting backgrounds, Diane and Scott decided to start a drama club at the school.  They were expecting, at the most, twenty-five kids to sign up.  To their pleasant surprise, over fifty students ended up participating in the program.  Parents also started asking Scott to privately tutor their kids and the Strands soon realized that Temecula sorely needed an acting school.

Classes at JDS Actors Studio start May 9th and will range from mommy and me for toddlers, to children’s & teen drama, to adult master classes, and public speaking.

And even though there is a performance class, Diane points out, “we’re a training ground, rather than a performance based school.”

Scott goes on to add, “As far as I know, we’re the only place in the area that focuses on the art of acting.  And our classes help with self-confidence, self-expression and help students learn techniques to deal with their feelings.  This is especially helpful for toddlers and pre-adolescents.”

In addition to training, there will be plenty of opportunities for those with Hollywood stars in their eyes to show off their talent.   The Studio is planning a showcase class where students will learn auditioning skills and perform in front of casting directors.  Another class, acting for the camera, teaches invaluable acting techniques, and the performance club will put on two stage productions a year.

JDS Actors Studio mission statement states they want to “create a comfortable space where actors and students can feel safe to express themselves emotionally, gain self-confidence, and learn the value of teamwork and collaboration.”    It’s a worthy goal, and definite contribution to the arts in Temecula.

JDS Actors Studio is located at 40935 County Center Drive Suite G. Temecula, CA (951) 296-6715

In addition to their busy schedule with the studio, Diane and Scott will continue to do their after school drama program at various schools in the Temecula Valley.
