By Guest Writer Lisa Musick,
At the end of Black Deer Loop on the west-side of town, turn left into a small parking lot. There you’ll find the new face of Tesoro Winery. Tucked back in and called The Tesoro Clubhouse, Kimberly and Buzz Olson have transformed an industrial office into “our private space.”
Upon arrival, I wasn’t even sure I was in the right spot. But poking through the glass, Kimberly motioned me to come on in. Greeted with a warm and inviting smile, we made introductions and she offered me a glass of 2006 Sangiovese. Wow! After a long sniff, I sipped an incredibly multi-dimensional wine that stayed in my mouth long after I swallowed it.
Owners of Kimberly Vineyards at the corner of Rancho California Road and Monte de Oro in the wine country, the Olsons are nearing the completion of their private space in Suite E on the industrial side of town. Adjacent to the small bar and tasting area created and designed by local musician, Wayne Cameron, the barrel room will be decorated for events, seated private dinners and music performances. They are also introducing Wine Pairing 201, a “kicked up” version of their wine and cheese pairing duo.
The barrel room will seat up to 60 people. “We’re social kind of people,” says Kimberly. “We’re excited to bring old friends and new customers to share in our vision.” The Tesoro Clubhouse carries an Old Vine Syrah, Viognier, Dolcetto and Tempranillo. Etienne Cowper, also the winemaker for Wilson Creek, creates some great tasting wines for the Olsons. They offer five tastes for $10 and, as a special, will give customers $5 off a bottle with a paid wine tasting. Sounds like a great offer to me! But hurry, you’ve got to taste that Sangiovese. It was just fabulous!
